Liz Garrison, MA, MSW

Registered Social Worker

I work with compassion and warmth to provide creative, effective mind & body (somatic) tools to support people to find safety, healing and growth.

My approach is warm, facilitative and collaborative. My personal pronouns are she, her, hers. I believe in the inner wisdom and resources of the clients I work with, even though sometimes due to trauma, prolonged stress or loss, this wisdom can feel difficult or near impossible to access. My work as a therapist is to provide a framework for us to explore finding ways to these resources together.

I work from trauma-informed, intersectional feminist, anti-oppressive, harm reduction, neurobiological and polyvagal theory informed approaches. I incorporate an eclectic blend of therapeutic techniques to meet your needs, including:

  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Levels 1 & 2,

  • EMDR,

  • Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST),

  • mindfulness-based interventions,

  • relational psychotherapy,

  • family & eco-systems,

  • and more.

I am a social worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). I have worked for over 20 years in direct-care and administration in health care and social service settings. I believe that being engaged and present with my family and community is an important part of my own self care and strengthens me as a therapist. I am passionate about incorporating concepts of mindfulness, non-violence, equity and social justice in my daily life and practice. I love working in the garden, being active outdoors, and the simple pleasure of making a bit of a mess as I explore cooking or baking in the kitchen.
